EDUCATIONAL
OBJECTIVES
The curriculum emphasizes clinical
experience and follows a tripartite model which includes: (1) didactic
course work consisting of weekly clinical and theoretical classes; (2)
weekly individual supervision of psychotherapy cases; and (3) the student's
personal psychotherapy or psychoanalysis. Clinical and theoretical courses
are pared throughout the curriculum to emphasize the practical application
of the concepts and techniques which are being studied. The theoretical
focus is on the central roles of development, unconscious pro-cesses, and intrapsychic
conflict in the formation of personality and psychopathology. The clinical
focus is on the influence of these central factors on the psychotherapeutic
process. There is the opportunity to closely follow the psychotherapeutic
process in individual supervision, group supervision, and continuous case
conferences which are woven into the curriculum.
