PLAY AND LEARN
Educational
play groups designed to help parents learn more about their children’s
development.
Would you like
to increase your confidence and competence as a parent?
Would you
like to have a special place to come to observe and learn more about your own
child?
Would you
like to discuss your questions regarding child development with other parents
and with child development specialists?
Groups are forming now for
moms-to-be, parents or caregivers of new babies, parents or caregivers and
infants (0 to 12 months), and parents or caregivers and toddlers (walking to 30
months).
Dads are especially welcome!
Groups are held at Smith Memorial
Playground and Playhouse, Rockland Mansion, and several suburban locations.

The Parent-Child
Center operates in cooperation with the Psychoanalytic Center of
Philadelphia. Its mission is to
provide parents with information regarding growth promoting parenting
practices and help in raising children in our increasingly complex
world. Play and Learn groups are run
throughout the year by specialists in child development. They provide a safe, nurturing place where
parents can meet with other parents, observe and play with their own children
and those of others and learn more about effective parenting and the inner
life of children. Dr. Fran
Martin is a clinical psychologist and
psychoanalyst with over 25 years experience working with children and
parents. She received her doctorate
from the University of Pennsylvania and has worked as a consultant at a
number of suburban public and private schools She has spoken widely on the topic of
the impact of chronic disease on children and families. She is on the Boards of The Carson Valley
School and The Greentree School. She
is on the faculty of the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia and has taught
courses on numerous topics including child development, learning disabilities
and parenting. Currently she is in private practice and is the co-director of
The Parent-Child Center. Dr. Corinne
Masur is a clinical psychologist and
psychoanalyst who has also worked with children and parents for over 25
years. She received her doctorate from
Hahnemann University and has worked at The Child Psychiatry Center at St.
Christopher's Hospital, Abington Memorial Hospital's Child Psychiatry
Service, the Student Health Service at Rutgers University, and in private
practice. She is on the faculties of
Widener Center for Clinical Studies and The Philadelphia Psychoanalytic
Center. She has written on subjects
including early childhood bereavement and child development. Currently she is
in private practice and is the co-director of the Parent- Child Center. Funding for the Parent-Childs Groups
has been provided by the American Psychoanalytic Foundation through The
American Psychoanalytic Association and by The Foundation of the Psychoanalytic
