The Educational Program . . . CURRICULUM II Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis Enrollment in Curriculum II may begin concomitant with
enrollment in Curriculum 1. Personal Analysis It is desirable that candidates begin the curriculum
while still in a personal analysis. Didactic Courses Curriculum II covers the theory and technique of child
and adolescent psychoanalysis, child development and psychopathology, direct
child observation, and a thorough study of classic and contemporary
literature. The candidate must have already acquired a solid background in
these topics, as well as in psychoanalytic metapsychology in order to apply.
This is a four-year didactic curriculum. Each year is divided into
trimesters. One trimester is devoted to an observation component. The other
two trimesters consist of a didactic component and a Continuous Case seminar.
The case seminar involves the presentation of a latency child one trimester
and an adolescent the other. Each candidate is expected to make at least one
case presentation. Upon approval, a research component may be substituted for
one or another aspect of the program. Supervised clinical work Child cases can be started at any time with the
approval of the Child Faculty. To qualify for graduation, the candidate is
required to have satisfactorily analyzed three children: at least one of
latency age and one adolescent including patients of each sex. At least one
case must have been carried through a termination experience under
supervision. A pre-latency child experience is highly recommended. The Child Analytic Committee will review the
progression of the candidate's child analytic cases in supervision. The
Education Committee may consider graduation from Curriculum II when an
analytic process is demonstrated in the third case. DESCRIPTION OF COURSES [Page
