Applicants should have a Master's or Doctoral degree in their field, and must demonstrate an aptitude for psychodynamic psychotherapy. If applicable, clinicians should have a current license to practice and adequate malpractice insurance. All applicants are considered without regard to race, sex, religion, national origin, age, sexual preference, or physical disability.
A $50 non-refundable application fee is required with the application. Applicants should send in the application form (downloadable by clicking the link below), along with two letters of reference from individuals familiar with their work, a brief biographical sketch including a statement describing the applicant's interest in further training, and if applicable, a copy of the applicant's current license and certificate of professional liability insurance. If the application is satisfactory, an interview with one or more members will be scheduled. The applicant will subsequently be notified of the decision. Due to limitations in class size, applications received before June 30 will be given preference.
Tuition is $1,980 per year, with $990 due by September 1st and $990 due by January 1st. Payment plans are available and students should contact the office. A tuition scholarship is available to social work applicants (Patricia Claffie Fund) and local psychiatric residents (Resident Education Fund). Tuition is non-refundable.
Students will be offered the opportunity to participate in the many and various educational activities of the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia free of charge or at a reduced rate if there is a program fee. This includes all workshops given by the Alliance for Psychoanalytic Thought, as well as our Psychoanalytic Forums. Students are eligible for referrals from the Consultation and Referral Service, as well as the web-based 'Find A Therapist.' Students can access the PEP web and will receive basic PCOP membership benefits.
Periodic evaluations of the student's progress and decisions as to satisfactory completion of the program are made by the Director. Upon successful completion of the program, each student will be presented with either a clinical or academic certificate as a graduate of the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training Program of the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. Graduates are invited to apply for membership as Psychotherapy Associates in the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. Scientific and social activities are available to Psychotherapy Associate members.
