The Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia gives you access to an extensive network of psychoanalysts and psychotherapists through the Consultation and Referral Service and the Find A Therapist directory. The Consultation and Referral Service offers evaluation and referral services by the members of the Center, who are extensively trained and highly skilled psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers. All of our members have completed or are pursuing rigorous post-graduate training as psychoanalysts or psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapists. Treatment is provided in the private offices of our members, throughout the Delaware Valley. Services are provided for adults, adolescents and children with a wide range of difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, school failure, relationship problems or life adjustment. A sliding scale is available on request.
At the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia, all of our members are committed to a psychoanalytic treatment approach—an approach based on revealing and interpreting the unconscious processes which affect individual behaviors, feelings, and thinking. Both Psychoanalysis and psychotherapy share the core concept that insights into these unconscious processes can play a meaningful curative role in an individual's psychological and behavioral health.
Although the intensity and duration of psychoanalytic treatment can vary, many clinicians and patients alike find that the ability to find and address core problems is enhanced by more frequent psychoanalytic sessions. Typically, analysis requires 4 or 5 sessions per week; but less intensive options, such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, may also be effective at addressing patients’ problems—and almost all analysts are psychotherapists as well.
